Solomon Fund
Offers Latinx children inclusive opportunities to participate in sports and rec opportunities
We envision a Park City where all children have the opportunity to be active and engaged through sports and recreation.
Our goal is to increase access to sports and rec for Latinx children in Park City to create a more inclusive and complete community. We would like to see child participation in athletics reflect the diverse makeup of our town.
This initiative aims to address several barriers that currently hinder participation for families. Key barriers include communication and outreach, cultural inclusion, and scholarships and gear.
The last 20 months have presented countless challenges for many members of our community. Since mid-March of 2020, the Solomon Fund has demonstrated the incredible reach it has within the Latinx community in Park City, a testament to the trust and communication channels built up over the last four years.
In the last year the Solomon Fund has:
- helped facilitate 1,200 Latinx registrations in local sports and recreation programs, from skiing to soccer, dance, karate, gymnastics, and more
- 96% or registered Latinx students completed their program
- helped Solomon Fund partner organizations increase from 13% Latinx participation to 19% Latinx participation (an average across all Solomon Fund partner organizations) during the pandemic, this is absolutely incredible
- 62.5% of partner organizations reported an overall increase in Latinx participation (during the pandemic)
- during the 2021 grant cycle, Solomon Fund granted $148,500 to organizations intentionally working to increase Latinx participation
- managed a Facebook page that communicates upcoming opportunities with 1,307 followers
- translated documents for more than 30 organizations as they aim to create more inclusive programming
- hosted our first large-scale registration event in two years
- hosted virtual Solomon Fund partner meetings to share best practices, specifically around equity and inclusion
- promoted community resources that provide rental assistance, food assistance, winter clothes, and sports gear
- partnered with organizations to further develop their scholarship programs
- been an incredible leader in the Latinx community
Tom and Pat Grossman have generously offered a $100,000 match to part-time residents that will double donations your donation to any of the Community Foundation’s initiatives or funds. Gifts of any size are welcome!
